Food Cycle Series: DNREC and the State of Composting in Delaware with Adam Schlachter

Like many aspects of modern life, state legislature dictates what we are and are not allowed to do. This is especially true with any composting beyond the backyard. As we strive to improve the rate of compost and food waste recycling in Delaware, it is important for us to understand both the history of composting facilities in the state as well as the current state laws.

In recognition of International Compost Awareness Week and as an extension of last year’s popular FoodCycle series, The Delaware Center for Horticulture is hosting this workshop featuring Adam Schlachter. Adam has been in the recycling industry for over 25 years working at all levels including local, regional and State. His work at DNREC includes ensuring that solid waste facilities are operating to maximize protection of human health and the environment, educating and creating tools to help residents meet the State’s recycling goals and helping the regulated community be in compliance with State environmental laws.

Special thanks to DNREC for their generous support for this program.
